A fabulous nature reserve with plenty of trails and hides to watch wildlife and learn about birds and habitats. Often visit with my granddaughter and dog. Pushchair friendly with accessible paths and walking areas. Small cafe and shop which is run by a friendly group of volunteers. A great place to spend a few hours and appreciate nature.
Just moved to County Durham. What a super place virtually on my doorstep (well 22 minute drive). Lovely setting, with lots of different areas, to see all types of wildlife, plenty of hides located around the site. Finished off with tea and cake in the tea, very friendly volunteer on duty. Will definitely return, to see the changes throughout the year.
Lovely reserve run by Durham wildlife trust. A great place to chill out and watch birds, a nice little walk around too if your just after some fresh air. The visitor centre has a cafe serving tea, coffee and snacks, run but friendly volunteers a nice place to warm up and chat to fellow visitors and staff.
Well worth a visit. Basically, a fairly flat walk taking in a lake, woods, and the river Wear. About 1 to 1.5 miles, kingfishers, possibly a bittern to be heard, butterflies and a good range of other birds, with strategically placed hides. Rounded off with a cup of tea and a piece of cake served by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. A good morning out.
A wonderful Nature Reserve. The staff at the visitor centre are lovely, the food and drinks are reasonably priced and homemade. Parking is free, but donations are welcomed to support the reserve. The nature reserve has 4 hides for observing wildlife, with sweeping landscape views, perfect for wildlife photographers. The reserve is a haven for birds, insects, and small mammals, and the walk loops back to the visitor centre. I'd really recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed.
